The Brennan laboratory applies the power of Drosophila genetics to the discovery and analysis of genes involved in phagosome maturation. We use microscopy, biochemistry, protein analysis, and a suite of molecular biology tools to understand how white blood cells control the killing of microbes following their phagocytic engulfment.
The 10-day life cycle of Drosophila melanogaster.
Many of our studies are conducted on phagocytic blood cells extracted from larval stages of development.
